Snowed In | Beer Review

Oatmeal Stout – Ale Aged in Bourbon Barrels with Coffee & Chocolate – Copper Kettle Brewing Company

This beer was an adventure for me in a couple of different ways. First, when it was released I was out of town and then spent the next two weeks bouncing from liquor store to liquor to snag it. I watched enviously (on Instagram) as people tried not only this year’s vintage but compared it to previous releases.

Upon acquiring the beer I then decided, perhaps foolishly, that I needed to be snowed in for my first sip to get the full first experience. After all, I was just following the given instructions.

Tasting Notes from the bottle: “We created Snowed In for relaxed mornings when work is optional and the snow keeps falling.”

Visual: Dark Brown – almost black.

Aroma: Bourbon hits your nose first followed by the sweeter scent of chocolate with coffee lingering in the background.

Taste: The Oatmeal Stout flavor hits the tip of your tongue as you take your first sip. As it moves over your tongue the sweet of chocolate mixes with the bitter of coffee. The experience finishes with a robust bourbon flavor.

ABV: 13.3%

Overall Beer Rating:     9.5 out of 10 spades
