It’s a running joke, the temperature drops below 80 and it’s time for UGGs, Pumpkin Spice lattes from Starbucks, and Pumpkin flavored beer.
“Brace Yourself, Pumpkin Everything Is Coming”
While I can’t defend all pumpkin flavored items, looking at you Oreos, including certain pumpkin beers there are plenty to enjoy.
Here are our picks for Best Pumpkin Flavored Beers in Colorado:
New Belgium Brewing – Pumpkick:
ABV: 6%
It’s an Ale with hints of pumpkin, this is for the beer drinker that wants to dabble in pumpkin flavors but not totally commit.
Overall Beer Rating: 7 spades out of 10
Upslope Brewing – Pumpkin Ale:
ABV: 7.7%
Truly a gourd-centric beer, tastes like the real thing, and by that I mean pumpkin with the extra spices (cloves, nutmeg etc.) lingering in the background.
Overall Beer Rating: 8 spades out of 10
Strangecraft Beer Company – Pumpkin Porter:
ABV: 5.8%
Smoky and spicy with the pumpkin lingering in the background, perfect for a crisp fall evening. If you don’t like cloves or a good smoke flavor this isn’t for you.
Overall Beer Rating: 8.5 spades out of 10
Denver Beer Company: Hey Pumpkin!
ABV: 5.4%
The sweetest of the beers, it’s spices and pumpkin wrapped up in a almost creamy package. Too bad they don’t pass this out to the adults escorting the trick or treaters.
Overall Beer Rating: 9 spades out of 10
4 Noses Brewing – Pump Action
ABV: 7.7%
This imperial ale has won gold at the World Beer Cup and GABF – after one sip it’s not hard to see why. The pumpkin permeates but perhaps my favorite touch is the allspice, you just don’t see too many people allowing it to shine.
Overall Beer Rating: 10 spades out of 10
We could have stopped here but in the Halloween spirit we decided to bring out something a bit scary. These are great tasting pumpkin beers but they possess ABVs that might send you running for the hills.
“Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.”
Rumpkin (aged in rum barrels): 17.5%
Pump(KY)n (aged in bourbon barrels): 18.8%
Drink ’em if you Dare…
