This week, I tried New Belgium’s Rampant Imperial IPA. I know this comes right after Alysia’s review of New Belgium, it was not intentional, but Fort Collins was on my mind when I was deciding what to review next. New Belgium has been a favorite of mine since college at Colorado State in Fort Collins. (Oh the days when you walk right into New Belgium for a tour, with no wait…) So while I was at the store, pondering which IPA to try this week, I realized I could not recall ever trying Rampant! Ranger and Slow Ride are two of my loves, and Citradelic is one of my new summer favorites (don’t worry, review coming soon!) but Rampant? Could not picture the taste. Clearly I needed to rectify this immediately.
Visual: Dark amber with a slight reddish tint
Aroma: Strong and hoppy
Taste: Strong, hoppy taste with a dry finish. It has that biting bitterness of double or Imperial IPAs, with a bold flavor. I am partial to a hop-forward beer, and this one does not disappoint. Surprise, surprise there was a hint of fruit.
ABV: 8.5%
Overall Beer Rating: 8.5 spades out of 10
