American Blonde Ale with Lactose & Coffee – Wiley Roots Brewing Company
Things I enjoy in the heat of the summer? Iced coffee. When I found out that Wiley Roots was releasing a blonde ale that featured cold steeped coffee it had to be mine. Add in the noble hops, lactose and the fact that the coffee comes from a local coffee roaster – Beagle Coffee Company and it sounded almost too good to be true.
The lactose adds a sweetness that cuts through the robust coffee “emulating a shot of whipped cream in your favorite morning latte.”
Excuse me while I wipe the drool from my mouth.
Visual: Deep blonde/gold in color (minimal copper undertones), it’s not clear but not hazy and pours with a nice head.
Aroma: Your nose is immediately hit with the intense coffee aroma – but it’s a layered coffee aroma showcasing the different coffee beans. After the coffee and on your next sniff you get the creamy sweetness as it lingers in the background.
Taste: Just when you think you know what to expect from a beer this goes and happens. This is smooth, creamy, crushable and the coffee is mellow yet impactful. It’s nothing like you would expect from its aroma but trust me, everything you want. It’s also got a nice carbonation that enhances the body. It’s a damn shame I can’t start my day, every day, with a beer like this.Ā
